For Skiing and Non-Ski Activites

Over 6,500 Travelzoo Subscribers Ranked Tahoe #1

Subscribers voted for destinations that they had visited and would recommend to others. Then, Travelzoo editors ranked the most popular destinations for both skiing and overall winter recreation and non-ski activities.

SKI Magazine Reader Resort Survey ranks Heavenly Mountain Resort in the top 50 Resorts in the nation (October 2006). This year Heavenly dedicated $1.5 million to improving the snow surfaces this ski and ride season. In addition to five new Prinoth 350 groomers and a new winch cat (for grooming the steeper slopes), Heavenly will be buffing out its snowmaking system. “We've got the West Coast's largest snowmaking system, so if we get a little cooperation from Mother Nature, skiers and riders could celebrate Thanksgiving on the slopes," says Russ Pecoraro, resort spokesperson. and snowcats to category-three “green" engines.

SKI Magazine recognized South Shore's Kirkwood Mountain Resort for having the country's best “corn" or granular snow (April 2006). According to SKI Magazine, Kirkwood is also in the nation?s top 10 in three categories for Snow, Terrain Variety and Challenge (October 2005). Freeskier Magazine selects Kirkwood in the top Road Trips (November 2005). Kirkwood offers exclusive programs for all abilities from expert to novice skiers and riders. Timber Creek day facility and an expanded Burton Learn-to-Ride Center teach beginners the basics. Seasoned mountain enthusiasts can enjoy the only cat-skiing operation on South Shore or new programs at Expedition: Kirkwood, including backcountry guided tours. Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort was highlighted by Transworld Snowboarding with a No. 7 ranking in its Must Ride -- Top Best Places to Ride for 2006. Sierra-at-Tahoe is also recognized by Freeskier Magazine as No. 9 for Best Terrain Parks (2005). Sierra-at-Tahoe introduces its Burton Progression Park this season, featuring boxes, jumps, and rails located just inches from the ground, a perfect training spot for those who have always wanted to test gravity an inch at a time. Sierra-at-TahoeResort's five backcountry gates welcome the adventure seeker who's looking to navigate rock drops, cornices, steeps, open powder fields, and tree skiing.

The winter 2006-2007 season on South Shore Lake Tahoe offers more than skiing. December 15 and 16 MontBleu Resort and Casino will feature the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival. On January 24-48 the South Lake Tahoe Gay and Lesbian Ski Week occurs with snow sport activities and nightly entertainment. The 12th Annual Lake Tahoe Gay Ski Week WinterFest 2007 occurs March 4-11. WinterFest is Lake Tahoe's original Gay and Lesbian Ski Week since 1996 and the largest Gay and Lesbian Event in Lake Tahoe.
